Athletes Complete Training at Fort Indiantown Gap

The All Army Women’s Basketball Team winds down its three week training camp here this week. The team departs April 9 for the Armed Forces Championship in women’s basketball at Camp Pendleton, Calif., where the Army team will compete against teams from the other branches.

“I think we’ve got a good chance of winning,” said Maj. William Nate Johnson, team coach. “We are 8-1 in our exhibition games.”

The team began with 20 women trying out and was whittled down to 12 during camp. Players are selected from throughout the Army. Both active duty Soldiers and reservists may try out.

“The training here has been good. It’s allowed our team to focus,” said Johnson. The team stays on the installation and trains at the Blue Mountain Sports Arena.

After the Armed Forces Championship an all-star team is selected and will participate at the Amateur Athletic Union National Championships, Cocoa Beach, Fla.

Fort Indiantown Gap hosts All Army Sports training camps. All Army Sports trains teams of soldier-athletes to compete worldwide in a variety of sports.
