KANDAHAR, Afghanistan –Soldiers from the Afghan National Army and International Security Assistance Forces found four major weapons caches, Feb. 16 – Feb. 18, while conducting joint clearing operations in Arghandab district.
Security forces, comprised of soldiers from Afghan National Army and soldiers from 1st Battalion, 66th Armored Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, found the weapons caches during four separate joint-patrols, which were part of a continued effort to provide security for residents of Arghandab district.
Weapons seized included: 67 anti-aircraft rounds, a rocket-propelled grenade warhead, 11 mortar rounds, detonation cord, 50 various munitions, seven Soviet-made land mines, one anti-tank mine, one pistol and six jug with approx. 5-10 pounds of ammonium nitrate with other improvised explosive device making components.
“Our Afghan National Security Force Partners continue to take away the insurgents ability to harm innocent lives and conduct attacks,” said U.S. Army Maj. Earl Brown, public affairs officer, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division. “In finding and clearing these types of caches, they have made it harder for insurgents to disrupt security in the region.”
