KANDAHAR, Afghanistan – A joint Afghan National Security and International Security Assistance Force combat outpost observed an insurgent emplacing an improvised explosive device and conducted a precision air strike in the Arghandab District Jan. 18, killing one insurgent.
The joint force observed the insurgent placing homemade explosives prior to fleeing to a nearby house.
Close air support was requested and responding coalition aircraft were able to identify the insurgent’s house and conducted a precision air strike, killing the insurgent.
All bombs were observed striking their intended target, causing no damage to other buildings and no civilian casualties.
ANSF and ISAF secured the IED site and discovered 30 pounds of homemade explosives before conducting a controlled explosion.
