KANDAHAR, Afghanistan – Afghan National Army Commandos and Afghan Border Police destroyed more than 2,000 pounds of homemade explosives and cleared 10 improvised explosive devices in Kandahar province’s Zhari District during a two-day operation which ended Dec. 20.

The ABP and Commandos from the ANA’s 3rd Commando Kandak, partnered with Soldiers from Special Operations Task Force – South, also destroyed two IED-making facilities.

“This type of operation not only provides constant pressure on the insurgents’ freedom to maneuver,” said Lt. Col. Mike Sullivan, SOTF-South operations officer, “it displays to the local population caught in the middle that the Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan and its coalition partners are willing to seek out and destroy the enemies of Afghanistan."

No civilian casualties resulted from the operation.
