LOGAR PROVINCE, Afghanistan – Task Force Tiger conducted a five-kilometer remembrance run at Forward Operating Base Shank Nov. 25.
The unit’s leaders sponsored the event to honor the 13 TF Tiger engineers who died in action during their deployment.
“The run is a fundraiser to build a memorial at Fort Bragg [N.C.] in honor of the 13 fallen engineers,” said U.S. Army 1st Lt. Daniel P. Feldpausch of Cameron, N.C., 27th Engineer Battalion executive officer and event coordinator, originally from Fowler, Mich.
“It was a great cause to run for … our 13 fallen heroes,” said U.S. Army 1st Lt. Jeremy Hamilton from Charlotte, N.C., TF Tiger. “It’s cool to see the whole FOB come together and honor our guys and support the battalion.”
The engineer battalion has the tough task of performing route clearance in the northern, eastern and southern command regions. The U.S. Army Engineer School defines route clearance as the detection, investigation, marking, reporting and neutralization of explosive hazards and other obstacles along a defined route to enable assured mobility for the maneuver commander.
