Taylor Hosts SECNAV, Spanish Dignitaries

By Ens. Michael Leggett

LA CORUNA, Spain – USS Taylor hosted Secretary of the Navy Ray Mabus during a visit to La Coruna, Spain, Oct. 8.

SECNAV visited Taylor to conduct an all hands call with the crew and attend an evening reception on the flight deck with Spanish government officials, local city officials and military representatives.

Following the all hands call he was given a tour of the ship by Cmdr. Lyle Hall, Taylor’s commanding officer, prior to the evening reception.

The reception was well received by the Spanish guests, performing many toasts throughout the evening and included a cake cutting ceremony.

“I think we did a great job hosting SECNAV,” remarked Petty Officer 1st Class Shawn Riek. “It was a wonderful experience and something that will stay with me forever.”

Taylor, an Oliver Hazard Perry class frigate, is homeported in Mayport, Fla., and is on a scheduled deployment to the U.S. 6th Fleet area of responsibility.
