KANDAHAR, Afghanistan - Afghan National Security Forces with 3rd Commando Kandak, along with coalition forces including elements of Special Operations Task Force – South, killed three enemy combatants during a clearing operation Sept. 28 in the Zharay district of Kandahar province.

The Commandos and coalition forces conducted the operation in order to disrupt insurgent influence in the area.

Multiple insurgent elements departed the area upon arrival of the combined force, however, some chose to stay and fight as the commandos and U.S. Special Forces soldiers took continuous AK-47 and machine-gun fire during the operation.

The team called in close air support on a tree line where insurgents were hiding and firing upon the coalition element.

The operation resulted in at least three enemy killed-in-action.

Found during the operation was a sniper rifle and ammo bag located in a building near the engagement.

No civilians were injured, and no property damage was reported.
