BAGRAM AIR FIELD, Afghanistan — Afghan national police along with paratroopers from Troop A, 1st Squadron, 40th Cavalry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division, seized a sizable weapons cache and detained six insurgents during a joint operation, in the Jaji District of Paktya province in eastern Afghanistan, July 20.

The night prior to the operation, a group of suspected militants were detected carrying weapons in northern Paktya and were monitored throughout the night.

Acting on the intelligence from the previous night, the combined force searched two locations, uncovering 13 RPG launchers, 16 AK-47 magazines, two weapons vests, six anti-personnel mines, eight RPG motors, eight grenades, two 12 gauge shotguns, improvised explosive device making material and various other items.

"This is yet another example of how the communication between ISAF soldiers and their ANSF partners can lead to a successful mission and the capture of insurgents," said Maj. Herb Skinner, executive officer, 1-40th Cav. Regt. "With this mission, the Jaji District is a little safer now that Troop A and its Afghan partners took those threats out of the equation."

No U.S. military or ANSF casualties were sustained during this operation.
