BUFFALO, N.Y. - Lt. Col. Reginald Sanders, a Sackets Harbor resident, has been selected to take command of the 153rd Troop Command, a New York Army National Guard support service headquarters in Buffalo, later this year.

Sanders, who has been in the New York Army National Guard since 1989, is currently the commander of the 27th Brigade Special Troops Battalion, which is headquartered in Syracuse.

Sanders deployed to Iraq and Kuwait in 2005 in support of the 42nd Infantry Division, and acted as rear detachment commander for the 27th Brigade Combat Team during that unit's deployment to Afghanistan in 2008.

Sanders was selected for the position by the New York Army National Guard's Command Selection Board of general officers.

The 153rd Troop Command is the headquarters for the New York Army National Guard's 272 Military Police Liaison Brigade, the 29th Personal Service Detachment and the 102nd Maintenance Company. In a state emergency the headquarters would control National Guard forces in western New York.
