USS ESSEX, At Sea - The Marines and Sailors of the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit took a quick break from operations to enjoy Super Bowl XLIII aboard the forward-deployed amphibious assault ship USS Essex.
"Emotions were high through out the ship and in the end everyone had a great time watching and cheering for their favorite team," said Cpl. James Kilby, an administrative clerk and Arizona Cardinals fan.
The game was televised by the Armed Forces Broadcasting Network.
The MEU is currently sailing to Thailand to participate in Cobra Gold 2009, their first major exercise of the spring patrol.
