FORT HOOD, Texas – The nation has been at war for more than a decade, making family time that much more critical for Soldiers.

The 1st Squadron, 9th U.S. Cavalry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, understands this and held an organizational day July 31 at Belton Lake Outdoor Recreation Area, Belton, Texas.

“We realize how important Families are and what they do for us as Soldiers,” said Lt. Col. Jason Tussey, commander of 1st Sqdn., 9th Cav. “Families are important to us as Soldiers because it allows us to prepare for future missions.”

The day was filled with fun as Soldiers and Family members participated in activities such as football, basketball, kickball, volleyball, and a barbeque.

Tussey said days like this are important because Families are important. The long days, long nights, and the time away from home is possible because the families take care of what happens at home.

The rain didn’t slow down the festivities. With only a few showers, the day continued on as planned.

“We got together for a little fun, not necessarily in the sun, which has really worked out for us today,” said Tussey.

Tussey said everything that Soldiers do justify days like this.

“Look at the turnout that we have here,” said Tussey. “The commitment of the Soldiers and the families is critical to us as a nation and as an Army.”
