2nd Medical Battalion hosts first ever ‘Jane Wayne Day’

MARINE CORPS BASE CAMP LEJEUNE, N.C. – Marines and sailors of 2nd Medical Battalion, 2nd Marine Logistics Group gathered with family members to attend the first-ever "Jane Wayne Day" for the battalion aboard Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, July 25.

The event was an opportunity for family members of 2nd Med. Bn. to get a glimpse of what their service members do when they lace up their boots in the morning and leave for work.

“We are trying to allow the spouses, guests and significant others to have an insight into the day-to-day operations and training for the men and women of 2nd Medical Battalion,” said Lt. Cmdr. Jerry Bailey, Executive Officer of 2nd Med. Bn., 2nd MLG.

Patrons started the morning with a breakfast at the chow hall. Afterward, the groups divided and rotated between various simulations and events to include a convoy simulator, weapons range simulator and more.

“What they were able to do today was go through the convoy simulator, and the Indoor Simulated Marksmanship Trainer,” said Bailey. “It really gives them an opportunity to see what the service members do while working up for a deployment.”

Once groups got to the convoy simulator, they broke into four teams and drove their vehicle down a simulated road in a convoy formation.

“The convoy simulator was fun to see how it felt driving and how alert you have to be while driving in those situations,” said Chauncey Diefendorf, a participant in the event. “It was really eye-opening to see what some people get put through in these conditions.”

The event set the stage for future participants to enjoy a similar experience, bridging the gap between family and service members.

“I will definitely come back to the next one they have,” said Tamara Morales, participant at the event. “It helps families understand what their service members go through.”
