Now off to kindergarten

YONGSAN GARRISON, Republic of Korea – A pre-kindergarten event was coordinated by Child Youth and School Services Child Development Center to congratulate 13 graduates at the R&R underground, June 13.

Col. Michael E. Masley, commander of U.S. Army Garrison Yongsan, congratulated all the children who graduate preschool and go off to kindergarten.

“These 13 young graduates of the Strong Beginnings class are filled with a bright future. They have a lot to learn and accomplish as they enter a real school,” Masley said. “Thank you for all the people involved who made this event possible, the teachers and families who attended. Also thank the graduates for working hard and follow the golden rules.”

After the words of thanks, Masley emphasized the importance of what children learn in kindergarten by quoting a poem named ‘All I Really Need to Know I Learned in Kindergarten’.

“Most of what I really need to know about how to live, and what to do, and how to be, I learned in Kindergarten,” Masley said. “These are the things I learned: Share everything. Play fair. Don't hit people. Put things back where you found them. Clean up your own mess. Don't take things that aren't yours. Say you're sorry when you hurt somebody. Wash your hands before you eat. Flush. Warm cookies and cold milk are good for you. Live a balanced life. Learn some and think some and draw and paint and sing and dance and play and work some every day. Take a nap every afternoon. When you go out into the world, watch for traffic, hold hands, and stick together.”

The event went on with a meal provided for the attendees to enjoy and a photo time for the parents to remember their children’s big day.
