Fort Hood hosts Independence Day Celebration

FORT HOOD, Texas - Fort Hood's Independence Day Celebration will begin at 5 p.m. July 4 in Hood Stadium located behind the Clear Creek Post Exchange.

Musical entertainment will include Pat Waters and the Chainlink Band, as well as, Max Stalling and his band playing their original music from 6-8 p.m.

This will be followed by two 1st Cavalry Division Bands performing from 8-9:30 p.m. "Warrior's Call" will cover rock-n-roll hits and "Crossfire Brass Band" is a brass band covering popular music.

During the event, food trucks will be selling food and beverages along with family readiness group food and beverage booths and other sponsored booths from 5-9:30 p.m. Alcohol will be sold during the event.

Concluding this year’s party is an extravagant 30-minute fireworks presentation beginning at 9:30 pm. Hood Stadium seats are usually filled quickly, so participants should come out early to hold their viewing spot.

The Independence Day Celebration is a free event and open to the public. Members of the general public in privately owned vehicles must enter and exit Clear Creek Gate (through the left visitors lane for access) or obtain a pass from the Visitors Welcome Center. Drivers and passengers 18 and older must have a valid photo ID.

On-post shuttles will be running approximately every 15 minutes. All individuals utilizing the bus service under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult. For a list of shuttle stops, visit Fort Hood’s Family and MWR Web site at www.HoodMWR.com.

Prohibited items at the Independence Day Celebration are explosive weapons, firearms, knives, clubs, brass knuckles, glass containers (except baby bottles), pets, alcohol and fireworks. Permitted items include: strollers, blankets, lawn chairs, small wagons, cameras and video recorder/camcorders. As a security precaution, items such as backpacks and handbags are subject to search. Certified service animals are permitted.

The Independence Day Celebration will be a day chocked full of fun and excitement for all involved, so make plans to bring the whole family today and celebrate our independence with all of us on Fort Hood. Note to Editors and News Directors: Because of traffic limitations in the event area, no media will be escorted onto the installation after 5 p.m. All television satellite/microwave trucks can only enter the installation at the Clarke Road-North entrance on U.S. Hwy. 190 at noon.

Media interested in attending any of the Freedom Fest activities need to meet escorts at the South parking lot across from the Visitor Control Center at the Fort Hood Main Gate. Escorts will be available for media pick up at 5 p.m.
