SHAW AIR FORCE BASE, S.C. – U.S. Army Central symbolically embraces the Palmetto State here, Tuesday.
Long a symbol of South Carolina and of the Middle East, City of Sumter-donated Palmetto trees now flank the main entrance to the USARCENT headquarters.
Lt. Gen. James Terry will deliver remarks at Patton Hall Tuesday, April 22, at 2 p.m., to honor the city and dedicate the four Palmetto trees that are prominently displayed at the at the unit’s main headquarters and thank them for the support they have shown the organization since relocating from Georgia to South Carolina in 2011.
The Palmetto trees are a visual reminder of not only our home in South Carolina but also our mission in the Middle East.
April 22 is also Earth Day and this ceremony will also commemorate the U.S. Army’s support for environmental protection.
