HUNTER ARMY AIRFIELD, Ga. – Families from 3rd Combat Aviation Brigade took part in an Easter Egg Hunt which was hosted by 3rd CAB at Hallstrom Lake Recreation Area on Hunter Army Airfield April 13.
There was more than just egg hunting on the agenda. Families, and especially the kids, could enjoy bounce houses, face painting, and even a place where you could decorate your own cookie. The Easter Bunny himself was on hand to meet the kids.
“I’m feeling great. I love kids and putting smiles on their faces, and it’s a beautiful day here in Savannah,” said the Easter Bunny.
The Easter Bunny was not alone though. He had the help of Sgt. 1st Class Chad Rutan, Headquarters Security Company, 603rd Aviation Support Battalion. Rutan was the noncommissioned officer in charge of planning and executing the event. He said there was one event that you don’t usually see at an average Easter egg hunt.
“For the 11 to 15 year-old kids we have eggs hidden at grid coordinates and they will have to find them using a PLGR [precision lightweight global positioning system receiver] or a DAGR [defense advanced GPS receiver],” said Rutan.
While the thought of young kids using high-tech devices to find candy or chocolate might be extreme to some, Rutan said that everyone seemed to enjoy themselves.
“I love seeing the little kids come out here and find the eggs, play with the bounce houses, see the Easter Bunny, and just interact with other Families within the unit,” said Rutan.
Echoing the idea of unity was Emily Culpepper, wife of Maj. John Culpepper, simulations operations officer, 3rd CAB.
“It’s a lot of fun, it’s a beautiful day, and seeing so many people come out and participate in an activity like this is a lot of fun,” said Culpepper. “Easter isn’t just about hunting eggs. It’s also about being together with Family, friends, and community.”
