First lady Ann McCrory hosts Easter egg hunt

RALEIGH, N.C. – Laughter, music, smiles, games, and fellowship amongst North Carolina military families was thriving at the Governor’s executive mansion, Saturday morning here.

First lady Ann McCrory hosted an Easter egg hunt for N.C. military families on the front lawn of the executive mansion. The event was supported by the first lady’s staff, USO of N.C., N.C. National Guard Family Programs and dozens of volunteers.

“Growing up with a father in the Air Force, I know firsthand what being a part of a military family is like,” said Mrs. McCrory. "It is important to us that North Carolinian military families know that they are appreciated and that they will never be forgotten or have their sacrifices ignored."

Military children from over 40 families of active and reserve components; Marine Corps, Coast Guard, Army, Air Force and National Guard, and families of fallen and veteran service members enjoyed face painting, a bouncy house, coloring and decorating, flower pot planting, family photos, music, drinks and cookies.

“This is a lot of fun for the kids and we were very happy to be invited,” said Terri McEachin whose husband is a veteran and North Carolina National Guard recruiter.

As of 2014, North Carolina has the third largest military population in the United States.
