Expo sheds light on emerging technology

MARINE CORPS BASE CAMP LEJEUNE, N.C., - More than 20 representatives from various companies displayed the latest in innovative technology during Lejeune’s Technology Exposition at Marston Pavilion aboard Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, April 2.

The exposition was an opportunity for Marines to view a variety of new technology that has potential use for their units, including long-range communication systems, computer security systems and more.

“I was interested in the new technology available to the Marine Corps and how it can help move our mission forward,” said Gunnery Sgt. James Back, an imagery analyst with 2nd Intelligence Battalion.

“This is an annual event we have done for over a decade now,” said Kate Ratcliffe, an event manager with National Conference Services Incorporated. “What we do at the expo is bring industry and military together as a unit.”

Although equipment was on display, Marines were not able to purchase any items at the expo.

“They do have the opportunity to attend the expo and browse the variety of items and systems,” said Ratcliffe. “Marines can then go back to their units and send information on technology and systems up their command that can potentially benefit their units.”

Not all displays at the expo were new to the Marines.

“Some systems and items are already being used by Marines at their units,” said Ratcliffe. “Some exhibitors have just received a General Services Administration type of contract, so it’s a little bit of everything,”

“Exhibitors at the exposition also received feedback on some of the current systems they offer to Marines,” explained Thomas Slaughter, a Department of Defense account manager with Motorola Solutions.

“The expo has gone great,” said Slaughter. “It has been a good opportunity for us and other companies to come out and kind of educate the Marines on some of the new products we have coming out and receive feedback on our products that Marines currently use.”

With an ever-evolving Marine Corps, companies who can provide new equipment that meets the challenging needs of Marines are an asset in the future.
