GARDEN CITY, N.Y. –High school teachers from Albany, N.Y., and Pittsburgh, Penn., travel to Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, S.C., for a first-hand experience on February 11.
The Educator Workshop is an annual program conducted by recruiting stations across the United States as an outreach program to high schools within its area; with the goal of showing educators the Marine Corps is a possible career path for their students as well as giving them insight into recruit training.
The educators are given the opportunity to overcome obstacles, scale the 60-foot rappel tower, participate in pugil stick matches, fire the M-16 A4 service rifle, learn the basics of drill, and observe how drill instructors mold young men and women into smartly disciplined, basically trained Marines.
Each activity teaches the educators a new aspect of the Marine Corps Warrior Ethos and Core Values that are passed down in order to instill confidence and strength of character into our Marines.
From Feb. 11 to 14 the educators will interact with drill instructors, recruit training depot staff, and recruits from their local area.
