GLENDALE, Ariz. – Navy Operational Support Center Phoenix reserve members interested in pursuing higher education had the opportunity to meet with several university and college representatives during a college education fair Jan. 25 at Luke Air Force Base.
The institutions offered sailors a chance to learn more about available educational programs ranging from associate's to master's degrees, as well as journeyman certificates and technical qualifications.
Advisers from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, Park University, Rio Salado College, Wayland Baptist University and Webster University made themselves available to assist Sailors with their educational needs.
“This is extremely beneficial for me,” said Master-at-Arms 2nd Class Louis Daugherty. “This is the perfect opportunity to speak with representatives from the college of my interest without the need to make an appointment or drive out of my way and I learned that Rio Salado College has a special program which works with my civilian job. I’m glad the advisers are so knowledgeable.”
According to a Webster University adviser, educational institutions have become more flexible, offering both online and traditional classroom courses to accommodate the needs of diverse pool of students they service – including military students.
“I learned that most of these schools have great military discounts or take part in the Yellow Ribbon Program,” said Builder 3rd Class Nathaniel Patterson. “Education is important for my future.”
The fair offered sailors the ability to register on site or request one-on-one mentoring with enrollment counselors while also simplifying the administrative process.
