MORRISVILLE, N.C. - A good commander gets to know their troops and the best way to do that is face to face. Soldiers of the North Carolina National Guard’s Army Aviation Support Facility #1 met their commander, Governor Pat McCrory, during their drill here today.
McCrory as NCNG’s commander-in-chief wanted to learn more about the capabilities and needs of his 12,000 soldiers and airmen as an operational force. The Guard he leads and other military serving in the state face many challenges with global responsibilities and dwindling resources.
Army Maj. Gen. James Trogdon, deputy adjutant general of North Carolina, briefed his commander on the Guard’s ability to save lives and property at home and deploy with battle-tested soldiers and airmen worldwide on order.
Soldiers of the 449th Theater Aviation Brigade shook hands with their commander as he examined an AH-64 Apache Attack Helicopter, a UH-60 Black Hawk and LUH-72 Lakota utility helicopter.
“It was an honor to have him here, he was very enthusiastic about aviation,” said Army Chief Warrant Officer 3 Carl Glover, an instructor pilot with the brigade.
