KAPISA PROVINCE, Afghanistan - Afghan elders and local government officials discussed increased security options for Alah Say and Tagab districts Dec. 21 in Kapisa province.
“The number of Afghan National Police should go up for better security,” said Noor Mohammed an elder from Kapisa. “By having good security we can have projects to reconstruct and build those things that our people really need. If we have Afghan Local Police then there will be good security and we can go forward for development. We can reconstruct.”
“We really want Afghan Local Police here,” said Brig. Gen. Khojh Safi, provincial police chief. “By having better security everything will be fine.”
Those in attendance agreed that cooperation between elders and government officials was essential in standing up against insurgents.
ANSF have increased counterinsurgency operations within the district in an attempt to eliminate insurgent activities. However, Mohammed believes that increased security will allow for more development projects.
“Right now, the schools in Alah Say are old, students study on grounds, and roads are not good for people to travel on,” said Mohammed. Better relations between the people and the government will benefit everyone, he added.
