GHAZNI PROVINCE, Afghanistan – Afghan National Army special forces led a reconnaissance patrol Dec. 22 to assess the progress and security surrounding a key road project in Giro district’s Atul village.

ANASF and Afghan Local Police later held a meeting where local villagers and road construction engineers expressed their satisfaction with the road project and welcomed the security forces.

The head construction engineer said he is pleased with the security provided by ALP and Afghan Uniformed Police who have been conducting regular patrols.

The road project started in late December and construction workers are currently focusing on a 3 km section south of the Andar district Center.

“The road was very bad and needed fixing,” said a local villager. “We are happy it is getting fixed because the [ANASF] will be able to better protect us and rid the area of the Taliban.”
