Georgia native takes command of NY battalion

FORT DRUM, N.Y. - Lt. Col. Jason T. Williams, Douglasville, Ga., native and graduate of North Georgia College, assumed command of 3rd Battalion, 6th Field Artillery Regiment, Nov. 18, 2013, Fort Drum, N.Y.

Williams is married to the former Shelley Graves and has three daughters Anna Lee, Emma Kate and Caroline. The Williams family began their Army career in 1998 after Jason graduated college in Dahlonega. Over the past 15 years he has served our nation at Fort Sill, Okla., Fort Carson, Colo., Fort Bragg, N.C., Fort Benning, Ga., Fort Leavenworth, Kan. and Fort Drum, N.Y.

Additionally, he has deployed to Bosnia, Iraq and Afghanistan multiple times. The Williams family moved from Fayetteville, N.C. where Jason served as a deacon at Cedar Falls Baptist church where Shelley also taught Sunday school to upstate New York in July of this year.

Last month they went to work in 3-6 FAR where they serve an organization of over 400 soldiers and their families. The grueling temperatures make them long for the more pleasant days in the north Georgia mountains where they plan to make their retirement home. While being of service to America’s finest citizens is their current passion they look forward the spending their days working in their local community and pulling for their beloved Georgia Bulldogs.
