WARDAK PROVINCE, Afghanistan – Afghan National Security Forces detained two suspected insurgents and discovered a weapons cache during a clearing operation in Baghkak village, Sayed Abad District on Nov. 20.
Afghan National Army Special Forces, assisted by the National Directorate of Security, searched the village for weapons caches because of recent reports of insurgent activity in the village. The security forces detained the two men after finding an arsenal in their possession.
ANSF confiscated about 800 rounds of ammunition, an assault rifle, a jug of black powder, and other materials used in making improvised explosive devices. They also confiscated four motorcycles, commonly used to carry out suicide attacks against Afghan and U.S. coalition forces.
"The operation was successful because of good mission planning and the efforts of the National Directorate of Security to gather accurate information,” said 1st Lt. Wahid Alla Wahid, the ANASF commander who led the operation. Wahid attributed the success to the ability of the Afghan Forces to work together.
Afghan Special Forces is one of the forces capable of networking with NDS units at local levels by building and strengthening relationships through joint operations and information sharing.
Afghan Special Forces are getting better every day by conducting operations like this, said Wahid. Even as the organization continues to grow, working with other Afghan security forces will help reduce insurgent attacks.
The detainees and weapons cache are in the custody of NDS officials.
