HANCOCK FIELD AIR NATIONAL GUARD BASE, SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The New York Air National Guard's 174th Attack Wing received additional military support in its efforts to identify and recover the remaining debris of an MQ-9 aircraft from Lake Ontario.
The MQ-9 aircraft, flown from Wheeler Sack Army Airfield at Fort Drum, crashed approximately 20 miles northeast of the port of Oswego into Lake Ontario during a routine training mission Nov. 12.
U.S. Navy experts, assigned to an area search platoon from the Fleet Forces Command based in Virginia, arrived at the Oswego Coast Guard Station on Wednesday, Nov. 20 to prepare for search and recovery efforts that may use Navy salvage divers to retrieve the MQ-9 wreckage.
The Air Force Accident Investigation Board (AIB) continues to investigate the mishap.
The 174th Attack Wing is home to an Air Force formal training site for MQ-9 pilots, sensor operators and maintainers.
