KAPISA PROVINCE, Afghanistan- Afghan National Security Forces killed five insurgents, captured four, and discovered two weapons caches Nov. 10 during a unilateral clearing operation in Alah Say Valley, Tegab district.

Commandos of the 6th Special Operations Kandak led the operation with soldiers of the 3rd Brigade, 201st Afghan National Army Corps, and Afghan Local Police after Kapisa provincial Gov. Mehrabuddin Safi promised to improve security in the district.

During the operation, ANSF received reports of insurgents massing to attack security forces. The combined elements then drove away the insurgents killing five and capturing four others attempting to flee following a firefight.

The weapons caches found throughout the operation consisted of large amounts of homemade explosives, numerous ANA uniforms, and ammunition vests. The removal of these findings are crucial to establishing security in the province, as insurgents use the items to pose as ANA soldiers to carry out terrorist attacks.

This operation is one of several clearing operations launched by the provincial governor and ANSF to clear out insurgents in districts across Kapisa province, said Safi. Stating that improving security across the province is his top priority.

Additionally, Safi is confident that Afghan Special Forces, ANA and ALP will be able to carry out his plans.

All detainees are in custody of the National Directorate of Security.
