SHAW AIR FORCE BASE, S.C. – This week’s U.S. Army Central Soldier of the week is Spc. Kimberley R. Alexis, from headquarters, headquarters battalion. Q: What are your hobbies?

A: I enjoy reading non-fictional novels, ice skating, horseback riding and spending time with my
family.

Q: What do you enjoy doing most during your free time?

A: Spending time with my sons; they’re ages six and four.

Q: What are your short/long term professional goals?

A: My short-term goal is to obtain the rank of sergeant and to one day become a drill sergeant.
My long-term goal is to retire from the service as a sergeant major.

Q: When did you make the decision to become a Soldier and why?

A: I made the decision to become a Soldier shortly after I had my children, as a way to provide a
life for them and myself. Also, to one day show my sons that you can do or be anything that your heart desires, as long as you work hard.

Q: If you could take a vacation to a location of your choice, where would you go?

A: I would choose Australia because I would like to see all the exotic animals that reside there.

Q: What do you enjoy most about being a soldier?

A: The most enjoyable part of being a soldier is that I can travel the world.

Q: If you could change one thing about the Army, what would you change and why?

A: I would change the height and weight program because today’s soldiers are shaped differently than they were 20 years ago. The standards should be brought up to date so that they fit the modern day “Joe”.

Q: If you could hold a different position in USARCENT for one day, what position would you
choose?

A: I would want to be the commanding general, because I would be able to help influence and impose changes with the height and weight program.

USARCENT soldiers are America’s land force professionals and experts in the Middle East and Central Asia. With a forward headquarters in Kuwait as well as the main HQ collocated with U.S. Air Force Central at Shaw Air Force Base in Sumter, S.C., USARCENT shapes the regional environment, and is the critical cog to sustaining coalition military operations in the region. Our presence preserves peace, but if prevention fails, USARCENT is ready tonight.
