The running dead: 2nd Medical Bn. holds zombie run

CAMP LEJEUNE, N.C. - Service members with 2nd Medical Battalion, Combat Logistics Regiment 25, 2nd Marine Logistics Group participated in a zombie run here, Oct. 31.

Marines and sailors were encouraged to wear costumes for the Halloween-themed event and run the one-mile course, which was patrolled by zombies.

Each runner was given two streamers prior to starting the run, which signified life. If one streamer was taken by a zombie, the runner was considered injured, but could still continue. Once the second streamer was taken, the runner became a zombie.

“It was a cool way to do a command [physical training], let everyone have fun and boost morale,” said Petty Officer 2nd Class Geoffrey A. Polizoti, the communications chief for the communications section of 2nd Medical Bn.

The idea behind the run was to have service members participate in PT while having fun and enjoying the holiday.

There was also a door and room decorating contest held by the battalion. . Participants were evaluated on originality, role playing, knowledge, traditions and Naval history. The winning company, Bravo Surgical Company, won a 72-hour liberty period and the right to display a large trophy until the next competition.

Following the run and award ceremony, service members gathered for a reenlistment and lunch, which consisted of burgers and hot dogs with donations going to various organizations.
