BAGRAM AIR FIELD, Afghanistan - A deployed captain’s recent reunion with her husband here reinforced her belief that a marriage can remain strong and love can thrive in spite of distance and deployments.
Capt. Tricia Ewing, deputy director, financial management and comptroller for Air Force Central Command Forward Staff, got the opportunity to reunite with her husband, Reggie, while they’re in the area of responsibility during their one-year assignments.
Capt. Ewing, from Canton, Ohio, is on a short tour to an undisclosed location while her husband, Reggie, is here on a year contract.
“It feels wonderful to be together and because we live in an uncertain world, especially in a combat zone, I will take any moment I can get,” said Capt. Ewing, a 13-year Air Force veteran.
The dedication, sacrifice and hard work they put into their marriage makes the reunion special to them, considering how long they’ve been apart.
"If you look at how our journey started; she deployed, then I left five months later, which prevented us from seeing each other here during rest and relaxation,” said Reggie, a Sentel Corporations inventory management specialist under the 401st Army Field Support Brigade and hails from Nashville, Tenn. “Now we are here together, even if for just a short time; and I am thankful for that.”
Capt. Ewing said she wouldn't have imagined the first time she got to see him after 10 months would be here, but she considers herself very grateful.
“I am thankful that my job and skill set aligned with the needs at Bagram, and I was able to do my job and see my husband,” she said. “I am blessed for this opportunity even if it only last for several days.”
The couple will celebrate their 6-year marriage anniversary this December.
