Operation Wolfpack

FORT WAINWRIGHT, Alaska - Col. Brian Reed, commander of the 1st Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division, took company commanders from the Brigade to the Northern Warfare Training Center, Black Rapids, Alaska, for two days of professional development Sept. 3-4.

Reed and the 27 company commanders spent the two days taking advantage of the NWTC’s unforgiving terrain and seasonal weather to hone their skills in land navigation, marksmanship on the High Angle Range, and various mountaineering tasks, such as fixed line rock climbing, rappelling, and erecting and crossing a single rope bridge.

Reed Also took the opportunity to lead a discussion on the military classic “Once an Eagle” by Anton Myrer, with the commanders sharing thoughts on effective and agile leadership and lessons learned from individual experience.

The Northern Warfare Training Center prepares soldiers from across the Army to not only survive but to excel and thrive in some of the harshest terrain and conditions Earth has to offer through a training program of mountaineering and extreme weather conditioning.
