CHINHAE, Republic of Korea – U.S. 7th Fleet flagship USS Blue Ridge (LCC 19) arrived in Chinhae Aug. 23.
While in Chinhae, the crew members and embarked 7th Fleet staff will have the chance to explore the local community, host guided-ship tours and participate in community service projects.
Chief petty officers and first class petty officers are taking the lead at a local foster home, where they will assist around the facility and interact with the children.
“Getting involved in the local community makes us better leaders,” said Chief (Select) Information Systems Technician Jamie Propst. “More importantly, it will be a joy to bring smiles to the children’s faces.”
Blue Ridge also has two visits scheduled at a home for handicapped children. Volunteers plan on entertaining the children and providing gifts.
“We wanted to do something that made a lasting positive impact,” said Legalman 1st Class Zandee Galang. “We’ve collected stuffed animals to give to the children, and we’re bringing origami and face paint to hopefully give them a day to enjoy.”
Blue Ridge port visits present opportunities to promote peace and stability in the Indo-Asia-Pacific region, demonstrate commitment to regional partners and foster growing relationships.
Blue Ridge has been forward deployed to Yokosuka, Japan for 34 years. As the flagship for U.S. 7th Fleet, Blue Ridge is vital in forging partnerships in the 7th Fleet area of operations.
