FORWARD OPERATING BASE FARAH, Afghanistan - Today members of Nemesis Troop, 4th Squadron, 2nd Cavalry Regiment replaced Assault Battery, 2nd Battalion, 12th Field Artillery Regiment as primary security force element at Forward Operating Base Farah.

The informal transfer of authority was implemented over several days after Nemesis Troop’s arrival to the FOB July 16.

Assault Battery 2-12, integrated with Provincial Reconstruction Team, Farah since May, has been responsible for over 25 patrols into Farah City facilitating security for command team and civil affairs members for multiple key leader engagements with local Afghan provincial leaders. Nemesis 4-2, deployed out of Vilseck, Germany, is anticipated to remain with the PRT until the FOB is transitioned to the Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan at the end of this year. Their missions will encompass PRT mission security, FOB security and base defense, as well as providing security oversight during transition and retrograde of the base.

Assault Battery 2-12 is returning to their parent command stationed at Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Wash.

PRT Farah’s mission is to train, advise, and assist Afghan government leaders at the municipal, district, and provincial levels in Farah province, Afghanistan. Their military team is comprised of members of the U.S. Navy, U.S. Army and U.S Army National Guard. For more information about the PRT follow their page on Facebook at www.facebook.com/PRTFRH.
