PARRIS ISLAND, S.C. - Recruits of Lima Company, 3rd Recruit Training Battalion, learned the basics of water survival July 8, 2013, at Parris Island’s recruit training pool.

Recruits must pass various tests including swimming in full utility uniform, jumping into deep water from a tower and treading water. Water survival training reduces fear, raises self-confidence and develops the ability to survive in the water. The evaluation provides recruits with basic water survival skills and is a graduation requirement. Lima Company is scheduled to graduate Sept. 6, 2013.
