WICHITA, Kan. - Soldiers from 451st Expeditionary Sustainment Command had a simulated training exercise at their command headquarters, located at the Lanny J. Wallace Army Reserve Training Center.
Col. Sandra Raveling, assistant chief of staff for support operations, 451st ESC explains that this simulated training exercise was in preparation for an upcoming annual training mission. This exercise will take place on the Korea peninsula.
“The 451st will be involved in the largest humanitarian mission the Army has ever participated in,” said Raveling.
The simulated exercised included briefing their commanding officer Brig. Gen. Kenneth Jones. Each section gave an overview of how their section would function and compensate for situations overseas.
“This is to help soldiers better understand the military decision making process,” said Raveling.
Raveling said this process is important because it assists soldiers in reacting to real-world situations they may encounter in an overseas environment, in a less stressful environment.
“[Non-Commissioned Officers] have to think at a strategic level and working with external partners, especially overseas,” said Command Sgt. Maj. Orlando Bass, command sergeant major of the 4th Expeditionary Sustainment Command, out of San Antonio.
Bass and the other soldiers of the 4th ESC were on hand to offer advice and observe the newest ESC in the U.S. Army Reserves, the 451st, in their preparations.
Bass feels that this is a very important component of preparing for overseas missions, and is beneficial for soldiers at all levels.
