Death of a Fort Hood soldier: 1st. Lt. Michael S. Pegues

FORT HOOD, Texas -- Fort Hood officials have released the name of a soldier who died from injuries suffered from a motorcycle accident in Killeen, Texas, May 12. He was pronounced deceased by doctors at Carl R. Darnall Medical Center at 1:21 a.m., here.

First Lt. Michael S. Pegues, 24, whose home of record is listed as Waldorf, Md., entered the military in August 2010. He was assigned 1st Battalion, 5th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Cavalry Division, since April 2011.

Pegues deployed in support of Operation New Dawn from May 2011 to November 2011.

Pegues' awards and decorations include the Army Commendation Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Iraqi Campaign Medal with campaign star, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Global War on Expeditionary Medal Army Service Ribbon, Combat Infantry Badge and Parachutist Badge.
