Who/What: Senior Airman Nila Curry was recently selected as one of Air Force District of Washington’s “Capital Airmen” for 2013. The Airmen (service members and civil servants) who are showcased in this initiative have exemplified the Air Force core values of integrity first, service before self and excellence in all they do. Curry has an amazing story about her Air Force career, and is excited to share what it means to her to serve her country.

BACKGROUND ON HOMETOWN HERO:
Curry graduated from Design and Architecture High School in 2005. After graduating from high school, Curry attended the Ringling College of Art and Design. With a few years of business and design freelance experience under her belt, she made the decision to join the Air Force in 2010. After graduating from basic training, she arrived at Joint Base Andrews, where she works in the 744th Communications Squadron as part of the Presidential support team.
Since arriving here, Curry focused on giving back to her new community. She was named the 2013 AFDW Volunteer of the Year. In her off-duty time, she helps the homeless and volunteers with the base chapel community, high school mentorship programs, National Multiple Sclerosis Society, and unit events. She said, “I have a passion for helping people and am aspiring to be a chaplain.”
