MARINE CORPS BASE CAMP LEJEUNE, N.C. - Congress birthed the Marine Corps in 1775, but they also called for a day citizens from all different backgrounds and religions together for a day of prayer.
Records indicate there have been 1,075 state and federal calls for national prayer and base personnel are scheduled to continue the calling with a breakfast and day of prayer at the Paradise Point Officers’ Club aboard Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune May 2 at 6:45 a.m.
“We look forward to this day every year,” said Cmdr. Ray Stewart, the base chaplain. “Anyone from different beliefs are more than welcome to take a moment to pray with us.”
According to the National Day of Prayer website, the overall mission of the National Day of Prayer Task Force is to mobilize prayer in America and to encourage personal repentance and righteousness in the culture. Chaplains from all faiths will be there to accommodate persons of different denominations and religions.
The National Day of Prayer Task force runs the online website and also organizes meetings.
“It’s a great opportunity for people of faith to come together and pray for our country,” said Stewart. “We don’t always get chances for people of all faiths to pray together.”
