UNDISCLOSED LOCATION - Malaria kills more than 650,000 people each year; the majority of those deaths occurring on the African continent. To recognize the affect this devastating disease continues to have on the world, U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM) is partnering with USAID on “World Malaria Day” by hosting an informational web chat on Twitter.
Who are AFRICOM and USAID assisting in the fight against malaria? What successes have resulted from partnerships with African nations? Medical experts and malaria prevention specialists will be standing by LIVE to answer your questions as well as provide new information on other outreach initiatives.
The web chat will take place on Thursday, April 25. AFRICOM will be fielding questions from 12-5 p.m. (CET) while USAID and partners will be online from 2:30 - 9 PM (CET). Admiral Timothy Ziemer, US Global Malaria Coordinator and leader of the US President’s Malaria Initiative (PMI), will join the chat from 2:30-3 PM (CET). PMI is a multi-agency program led by the U.S. Agency for International Development and implemented together with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
