DIEGO GARCIA, British Indian Ocean Territory - Former Naval Mobile Construction Battalion 5 command chaplain Lt. Gregory Uvila recently visited and reconnected with NMCB 5 Detail (Det) Diego Garcia. Now chaplain for Naval Support Facility, Diego Garcia, the former NMCB 5 chaplain from August 2009 to July 2012 recognized many of the Seabees deployed with the Det.

He and the Det officer in charge, Ensign Raymond Bendt, walked around the Det’s project sites for a day giving the Chaplain a chance to reminisce about his time with the battalion.

“When I served with NMCB 5, I always appreciated the camaraderie and esprit d’corps shared with the battalion Seabees,” said Uvila. “I had the privilege to deploy with NMCB 5 to Afghanistan in 2011 and also to Europe and Africa in 2011. FIVE is an amazing, awesome unit and I miss being part of such a close-knit team.”

For the remainder of NMCB 5’s 2013 Deployment, “The Professionals” of Det Diego Garcia will still get to see the old “Chaps” around as they continue their Construction Readiness Operations projects.
