One of a kind

TARIN KOT, Afghanistan – Soldiers from the 329th Airborne Transportation Detachment Movement Control Team assigned to Combined Team Uruzgan to control airfield operations are one of a kind at Multinational Base Tarin Kot, Afghanistan, Feb. 18, 2013.

The team’s motto is "One of a kind!" because they are the only airborne transportation detachment within the U.S. Army.

The 329th Airborne Commander Capt. Andrea Whitten is proud of her teams "one of a kind" mission, in addition to being the only airborne MCT, we are the only Army MCT performing aerial port operations while deployed without U.S. Air Force personnel or civilian support.

“Today we have the rare opportunity to promote one of own while deployed, but our normal daily duties have us jumping out of an aircraft [at Fort Bragg], and receiving, staging, and moving equipment and soldiers throughout Afghanistan,” said airborne commander Capt. Andrea Whitten, 329th MCT.

The team stopped their daily operations and had their Staff Sgt. Peter Mayoliz come to the passenger terminal to promote Pfc. Ashley Gervacio to specialist.

“Spc. Gervacio will be a rising star for the Army, she learns fast, takes initiative and is courageous when jumping out of an airplane into the dark of night,” said Sgt. Peter Mayoliz.

Since the team arrived to MNB-TK in January they have had a lot of unique experiences working with different coalition aircrews, air traffic control and various base agencies to ensure safe and efficient operation of aircraft in the airfield environment.

“We are truly blessed to be performing unique missions while doing movement control and giving the soldiers experiences they cannot get anywhere else in the Army,” Whitten said.
