KABUL, Afghanistan - Afghan and coalition forces confirmed today the death of the two Taliban insider attack facilitators, Mahmood and Rashid, during a security operation in Ghaziabad district, Kunar province, Wednesday.
Mahmood was responsible for the death of one American service member during the May 11, 2012, insider attack in Kunar province.
Rashid was Mahmood's associate and a former Afghan National Army soldier who facilitated and assisted with insider attack planning and execution.

During an operation, an Afghan and coalition security force arrested six insurgents in search of a Taliban leader in Aliabad district, Kunduz province, today. These insurgents are associated with a Taliban leader who is an improvised explosive device expert who allegedly oversees attacks on Afghan and coalition forces in the province.

Afghan and coalition forces killed Taliban leader Samiullah and an insurgent during an operation in Panjwa'i district, Kandahar province, yesterday. Samiullah coordinated and executed attacks against Afghan Local Police checkpoints and personnel. He was a weapons expert within the Panjwa'i Taliban network who was recently involved in taking three ALP members hostage.
In Nad 'Ali district, Helmand province, yesterday, an Afghan and coalition security force confirmed today the arrest of a Taliban leader.
The leader is believed to oversee insurgents responsible for direct fire and IED attacks against Afghan and coalition forces, including overseeing the procurement and delivery of weapons and IEDs to insurgents operating in the district. He is suspected of personally executing high-profile IED attacks. The security force also detained three suspected insurgents as a result of the operation.
During a security operation, Afghan and coalition forces killed two insurgents in Musa Qal'ah district, Helmand province, yesterday. During the operation, the security force observed two individuals conducting insurgent activities and engaged them, killing both.

An Afghan and coalition security force arrested a Haqqani attack facilitator in Gardez district, Paktiya province, today. The facilitator was allegedly involved with coordinating vehicle-borne improvised explosive device attacks in the Khost and Paktiya provinces. He is also accused of conducting the movement of insurgent fighters between Gardez and Jalalabad districts to execute attacks against Afghan and coalition forces. The security force also detained two suspected insurgents and seized a rifle and ammunition as a result of the operation.
An Afghan and coalition force confirmed today the death of Taliban leader Zerkawai during a security operation in Charkh district, Logar province, yesterday. Zerkawai, also known as Danish, transported weapons and explosives and oversaw IED emplacement operations in the district.
He planned and participated in attacks against Afghan and coalition forces utilizing rockets and heavy weapons. Prior to his death, he was believed to be conducting surveillance in order to execute IED attacks.
During the operation, the security force seized multiple assault rifles with ammunition and several grenades.
In Khugyani district, Nangarhar province, today, an Afghan and coalition security force arrested a Taliban leader. Prior to his arrest, the leader allegedly provided operational guidance to other local Taliban leaders. He is believed to have overseen ten insurgents who used heavy weapons and explosives against Afghan and coalition forces. The security force also detained suspected insurgent and seized ammunition.
