Jefferson City Guardsman takes command

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – The Headquarters and Headquarters Detachment, 835th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion underwent a change of command ceremony in Jefferson City recently.

Capt. Katharyn Mudd, a Jefferson City resident and Monroe City native, became the unit’s new commander, taking the position from Capt. Kalli Fox.

“It is truly an honor to be a part of this battalion,” Mudd said. “I look forward to this command, being a part of this unit, and getting to know each and every soldier.”

Lt. Col. Christopher Mickan, the 835th CSSB commander, is confident that Mudd will be a significant asset as the detachment’s commander, he said.

“I knew she would be a great selection for this position and I know she is going to do great things for this organization,” Mickan said.

The weekend marked Fox’s last days as commander and her last drill weekend. Fox is separating from the National Guard after eight years of service. She is looking forward to exploring civilian opportunities in event operations, she said.

“I want to give a big thank you to the members in this unit,” Fox said. “I will miss the people. Everyone is sent into your life for a certain purpose. That purpose might have been to push me outside of my comfort zone or to lead me through something I was unfamiliar with or to help put a smile on my face and give me advice and answers through tough times.”

Like Mickan, Fox knows she is leaving her unit in good hands with Mudd.

“I wish the best of luck to Capt. Mudd, although she doesn’t need it,” Fox said. “She is brilliant and she is going to provide the exact type of leadership this unit needs to be successful.”

Mudd became a commissioned officer in 2007 after completing Officer Candidate School. Before becoming an officer, she was a qualified administrative specialist, graphic artist, and computer specialist.

Mudd’s previous officer assignments include aide de camp at Joint Force Headquarters in Jefferson City, platoon leader for the 135th Signal Company in Kansas City, and the battalion signal officer for the 1140th Engineer Battalion in Cape Girardeau. She currently works full-time for the 835th CSSB as the battalion’s personnel officer.
