2ND AABN goes back to basics

MARINE CORPS BASE CAMP LEJEUNE, N.C. – Marines with Charlie Company, 2nd Assault Amphibian Battalion, 2nd Marine Division, endured cold winds and low temperatures during a combat marksmanship program event February 1, 2013.

“Combat Marksmanship is crucially important in developing close quarters combat shooting skills,” said Staff Sgt. Christopher Meyer, a section leader with Charlie Co., a Portland Ore., native. “It helps Marines effectively engage at a fast and close distance.”

During the two-day exercise Charlie Co. will be sharpening their skills from 0-25 yards and also at an unknown distance. Each Marine will have to qualify by successfully hitting the target in a 12 inch circle from a predetermined distance.

“The training is important because of two reasons, it allows the junior Marines to build the basics for engaging the enemy in basic close-quarters, combat skills and it allows the senior Marines to reinforce the skills already learned throughout their career,” said Lance Cpl. James McDaniel, a Crewman with Charlie Co., a Paris, Texas native.

Staff Sgt Meyer said, it’s not only training, but it’s also fun to get out on the range and fire weapons all day.
