ANAHEIM, Calif. - Two high-school football players from the Houston area are scheduled to play at the 2nd annual Semper Fidelis All-American Bowl game, Jan. 4, 2013, at the Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif.

Reggie Chevis, an inside line backer from Sharpstown High School, Houston, and Deon Hollins Jr., a defensive end from Fort Bend Marshall High School, Missouri City, Texas, are members of the All-American West Team, which is comprised of students from anywhere left of the Mississippi River, against the East team - students from the rest of the U. S. The game has brought about 100 student-athletes from across the country who have demonstrated success on and off the field.

Chevis, who has committed to Texas A&M University's Football Team, explained that he is thrilled to play in the game with the countries other high-school elites.

"Man, it's a blessing and an honor," he said. " I'm here with the top players in the country … It's a good feeling."

He also said that playing with, and against players with so much skill will help prepare him for his career at A&M, a team who's name is a staple among great college football teams.

"The speed of the game and playing with some real competition will help out," he said.

Hollins, who has committed to UCLA, had similar feelings about being selected to play in the prestigious game.

"It's a tremendous honor playing with some of the best (athletes) from around the country and with some of the best coaches," he stated. " Coming into high school, all I wanted was to get a scholarship offer, so this is a big honor."

Chevis shared in his fellow Texan's goal, but also had his eye on playing as an All-American.

"It was one of my goals in high school to be an All-American, time to find another one," he said.

The two men arrived in California on Sunday, to get in a week of practice with their teammates and were also given opportunities to attend several banquets, and a trip to Knott's Berry Farm amusement park in Buena Park, Calif.

On Jan. 2, the players took a break from their hard work on the football field to volunteer with their hosting organization, the U. S. Marine Corps, mentoring children from Carson and Long Beach, Calif. They spent a few hours teaching children from the Greater Long Beach and Carson Parks and Recreations, teaching them the importance of good sportsmanship, leadership, and health and wellness.

The culmination of the week's events is when the two Houstonians take the field with their teammates to play in the second Semper Fidelis All-American Bowl. The game is Jan. 4, 2013 @ 6pm PST (9pm EST).
