TARIN KOT, Afghanistan – It’s unarguable that separation from family due to a deployment is emotionally tough, especially during the holiday season. But one item in particular, the mail, keeps everyone in good spirits at Multi National Base Tarin Kot.
The soldiers in the 502nd Human Resources Company, 4th Special Troops Battalion from Fort Hood, Texas, and the personnel of WorldWide Language Resources ensure the mail for Uruzgan Soldiers and civilians are promptly sorted.
According to Houston Texas native Sgt. Alicia Harris, the postal supervisor, mail is delivered in large ‘tri-wall’ boxes, sorted, transported and distributed six days a week during the year if weather permits.
Since mid-December, 43,365 pounds of mail have been delivered which has doubled November’s numbers and continues to rise during the holiday season.
“For the month of December, we’ve unloaded and sorted 30 to 32 tri-walls of mail a day,” said Pfc. Jason Bryant.
“Increasing morale for the soldiers is the best thing about my job,” Harris said.
Mail filled with goodies is a great way to uplift morale.
“Mail keeps the soldiers morale up and I’m happy to be a part of that,” said Starlena Jackson, WorldWide Language Resources inspection and finance clerk.
