MARINE CORPS BASE QUANTICO, Va. – The time to sign up for the Semper Fit group fitness classes is getting slim, and the instructors are urging residents aboard Marine Corps Base Quantico sign up at the Barber Physical Activity Center before Monday.

The Semper Fit group fitness classes will be discontinued for Christmas break from Dec. 17. - Jan. 2. Currently, Semper Fit is still offering all of their classes until Monday. The classes offer group exercise classes to help participants get the results they want.

There are classes that take fitness levels to the max, such as Maximum and Strictly Strength. Focusing both on strength and endurance, these workouts are meant to challenge every major muscle group, no matter the body type.

“I am a fan of the maximum class,” said Cpl. Christopher Tilghman, postal clerk. “The instructors motivate me to push myself during the drills and stations. By the time I’m done, I feel that I have accomplished a lot in just one hour.”

Then there are classes such as Hip-Hop Hustle, Zumba and Step that put the fun back into a well-balanced workout. These classes are made to be fun and easy for all levels of fitness, and will keep the body moving and sweating.

For those who not only like to work out their mind, but body as well, there are Pitaiyo and Yoga classes. With these classes, the benefits include increased core strength and toning the entire body, and improved flexibility, posture, concentration, endurance and balance.

“I would definitely recommend people to sign up for the fitness classes, especially Yoga,” said Yarimel Kobus, instructor for Semper Fit group fitness yoga class. “Besides flexibility, Yoga is also a stress reliever and keeps your body in shape.”

Active duty and reservists can still enjoy the classes for free. As for family members and retirees, the cost is $25 per month. Also, for Department of Defense civilians the cost $30 is per month. Contractor fees are $40 a monthly.

For any questions about the group fitness classes contact the group exercise program coordinator at 784-2339 or visit www.quantico.usmc-mccs.org/index.cfm/semper-fit/.
