MARINE CORPS AIR STATION BEAUFORT, S.C. - Marine Fighter Attack Squadron 115 held a Jane Wayne Day at Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort, Nov. 16.

Spouses of active duty Marines came to the Air Station to gain a better understanding of their Marines’ duties.

“We wanted to be able to give our spouses an idea of what their family member, their spouse, does during a normal day of being a Marine, and being a Marine aboard the Air Station here,” said Jimmie Woods, family readiness officer for VMFA-115.

The spouses went through the gas chamber, shot at the pistol range, and followed one of their squadron’s F/A-18 Hornet through the takeoff procedure from the air traffic control tower.
This was a good opportunity for spouses to gain some perspective in what it takes to be a Marine, said Woods.

Although they do not live the average day of a Marine, spouses left with a clearer understanding of the unique challenges Marines encounter.

Spouses can leave with a better understanding of their Marines’ rigorous work schedules and dedication to duty each day, said Woods.

Marine Corps spouses can have difficulty adjusting to the life of their Marine and understanding their daily schedule. Jane Wayne Day helped these spouses by giving them shared experiences with their Marine.

“They’re able to relate more to their spouse and understand the good and the bad that comes sometimes with being a U.S. Marine,” said Woods.
