TINIAN, Northern Mariana Island - The Tinian Health Clinic received a donation of dental supplies from the Ordot Dental clinic, located on Guam, Dec. 1 during Exercise Forager Fury 2012.
The supplies will play a vital role for medical and dental outreach programs during the exercise.
“I was on Guam as part of the advance party for Marine Aircraft Group 12 and I used that opportunity to arrange for us to donate our time here at the Tinian Health Clinic,” said Navy Lt. Cmdr. Matthew R. Doubrava, the senior medical officer for MAG-12, 1st Marine Aircraft Wing, III Marine Expeditionary Force. “While I was there, I was introduced to the dentist that ran the practice at Ordot Dental Clinic and they offered up two dental chairs from their facility.”
The Tinian Health Clinic required the new dental chairs to allow the Navy personnel to better assist the people of Tinian with their dental and medical needs.
“I flew to Tinian, spoke with the Clinic director here, Mr. Cing, who expressed a need for a dental chair. So I called back to the Ordot clinic and told them we could use those chairs and any other supplies they would like to donate,” said Doubrava. “Then I called the MAG-12 Chaplin and she assisted me with moving the donations from Ordot to Anderson Air Force base on Guam where they had the equipment loaded onto a C-130 and flew it here.”
In addition to the dental chairs, the Tinian Health Clinic also received a large amount of much needed supplies that were also donated from the Ordot Clinic.
“We just received a large shipment of much needed consumables, which include some paper towels and fluoride,” said Lt. Cmdr Michael Flannery, the general dentist with 11th Dental Company. “Not only can the hygiene appointments and cleanings be completed, but also those patients can receive a good dose of topical fluoride at the end of that treatment, which will definitely help.”
Naval personnel will continue to provide dental and medical assistance to the people of Tinian throughout the duration of FF12, with the help of local dental clinics and their generous donations of time and equipment.
