QUANTICO, Va. - After being postponed due to the condition of the football field after raining Friday, the game between the Quantico Middle/High School Warriors, and the Fishburne Military Academy Caissons kicked off on Monday.

“It’s hard to really know what’s going to happen on a Monday just coming off a weekend but it should be interesting,” said Dan Baranik, had coach for the Caissons.

The whole first half the game Caissons showed the Warriors that they came to play. Caissons managed to hold the Warriors from scoring any points. Meanwhile their offense scored not one, not two, but three touchdowns. Yet the Warriors did block every single extra point attempt by the

By the end of the half the score was Caissons 18, Warriors 0
With the Warriors, playing their second home game of the season, down at the half, the team did not hold their heads down or show weakness. Each player kept their composure and heads up as the coaches talked to them about the positives and negatives of the half.

The Caissons started the second half with the ball. On the first play of the second half, the Cassions ran it in for a touchdown. A false-start penalty pushed the Cassions back five yards on the extra-point attempt but that made no difference as the Warriors’ opponent finally tallied their first extra point of the game.

On the next possession Warriors, fought to gain yards with a couple of running plays. On third down, a bad snap, sailed over the head of the quarterback, and the Caissons jumped on it for the recovery.

“It seems that sometimes we get so caught up watching the game that we’re not in the game,” said John Hubert, head coach of the Quantico Warriors.

The Caissons tried to use the momentum of the turnover, running an impressive 30 yards down the field until they were forced out of bounds. As that play came to a close and players started heading back to the huddle a Warriors player was slow to get up.

“I went to push off my right foot trying to tackle and it cramped up to the point I can barely walk,” said Alex, senior defensive back for the Quantico Warriors. Even though Alex wanted to, he was not able to return for the rest of the game.

Play after play, there was undoubtedly a pattern in the Caissons offensive plays. They saw a weakness on the left side of the Warriors defensive line and they did their best to exploit it. Most of the Caissons third quarter plays went to the left side via the run, and they eventually scored another touchdown. But the Caissons, like with most attempts had their kick blocked.

“It comes down to two things that are basic in football, blocking and tackling,” said Hubert. “We have the potential to excel in both categories.”

Warriors attempted to make decent plays, but the Caissons defense would not give up a first down. The Warriors were force to punt again.

The Warriors defense refused to just hand a touchdown to the Caissons. They made sure that, if they wanted a touchdown the Caissons would have to work for every yard. Almost every time the Warriors tackled their opponents in the fourth quarter the hit was heard throughout the stadium.

Now even with the hard hits from the Warriors, the Caissons still managed to run in another touchdown.

With nearly five minutes left in the game, the Warriors tried their hand at getting the ball down the field. On the first play, they ran the ball, but while the runner was being tackled, the ball stripped, recovered by Caissons, who ran it back for a touchdown.
At this point in the game, with the score being 43 to 0 and less than three minutes left, it seemed that the Warriors were headed to a scoreless game.

The Caissons kicked off, and, to their surprise, the Warriors stormed down the field implementing their blocks effectively, getting 25 yards before being tacked. The Warriors started playing like the game had just started, with the energy of a team that just arrived to the field.

Run after run the Warriors refused to go down, shedding tackles one after another. Carlo, a sophomore running back started to stand out as the play maker. Carlo had a 25-yard run, followed by a 20- yard run to put the Warriors on the goal line.

This was the first time that the Warriors had been this close to scoring all game and Carlo was not planning to waste it. With first and goal, the Warriors snapped the ball and handed it off to Carlo, who ran straight up the middle, fighting his way in to score the first touchdown of the game for the Warriors.

Finishing off with that Warriors’ touchdown, the game ended with Warriors being overtaken by the Caissons 43-6.

“It was a good game,” said Baranik. “I believed that at times we got sloppy especially in the beginning. But we stayed focused and came up with the win.”

“We are going to have to reach deep down and find something within us to turn these games around for the rest of the season,” said Hubert.
